Divvy Business Credit Card Rewards

Divvy is best known as an expense management platform that offers tools to help  streamline business expense and spend management. They also offer a business credit card, with up to a $15 million credit line, for businesses of all different sizes. 

Here we’ll share how their rewards program stacks up against other business credit card rewards programs. 

Divvy Business Credit Card Rewards Overview

Divvy Business Credit Card rewards are structured to encourage business owners to pay their balances off weekly. Cardholders who pay their balances off weekly earn more reward points than those who pay semi-monthly, and much more than those who just pay monthly. 

Encouraging weekly pay may be beneficial to small business owners that are worried about overspending or big businesses that are already doing expense reports and reimbursements on a weekly basis. However, for startups or small businesses that need to carry a balance for cash flow purposes, this credit card structure may not be the best fit.

It’s also designed to ensure longer-term loyalty as described below. You may lose your rewards if you fail to meet certain requirements. Higher reward points are capped at a specific level of monthly spending that we’ll discuss shortly. 

There is no hard credit inquiry or personal guarantee when you apply for the Divvy Business Credit Card. While it doesn’t list a credit score requirement. Divvy does state that good to excellent credit (business and personal) is required.

If you don’t have good credit, you may want to consider the Divvy Credit Builder account, which requires the cardholder to prefund the account.  

Divvy Business Credit Card Rewards Details

Here are some basic facts about the Divvy Business Credit Card:

  • $0 annual fee 

  • Integrate with Divvy expense management software

  • Ability to set budgets

  • Free virtual cards

  • Free employee cards

Additionally, the company supplies additional perks and special deals, most of which seem to be geared more toward small business owners, but may still be helpful for established businesses. These include perks like $150 off Google Ads credits or $50 off a new Costco membership. 

For those who will treat this credit card like a charge card and make weekly payments they can earn:

  • 7 points per dollar on restaurants

  • 5 points per dollar on hotels

  • 2 points on software subscriptions

  • 1.5 points on all other eligible business purchases

If you are paying your bill semi-monthly you can earn:

  • 4 points per dollar on restaurants

  • 3 points per dollar on hotels

  • 1.75 on software subscriptions

  • 1 point on all other eligible business purchases

Monthly bill payers earn:

  • 2 points per dollar on restaurants

  • 2 points per dollar on hotels

  • 1.5 on software subscriptions

  • 1 point on all other eligible business purchases

However, bonus reward rates are capped at the first $5000 in spending each month. 

Here’s how Divvy explains it: 

“Multipliers apply to the first $5,000 spent in a month and all subsequent eligible transactions will earn rewards at the Everything Else multiplier. For example, if your first $5,000 spent in a month was on hotels, the Hotels multiplier would apply to that $5,000 but all subsequent eligible transactions for that month would be given the Everything Else multiplier, even if the transactions were for restaurants, hotels, or software subscriptions.”

The “everything else” rate is 1x points for monthly and semi-monthly card payers and 1.5x for weekly payers. 

While the rewards are definitely more generous for those who pay weekly, the categories are limited and best for those who have lots of restaurant and hotel charges. Plus you also have to consider the redemption value of the points which we’ll discuss in a moment. 

There are some unique requirements associated with Divvy rewards. If you don’t read the fine print, your rewards may be at risk. 

First, while you can accrue rewards during the first twelve months, you can’t spend them until you have held the card for at least 12 months. After that you can spend them as long as you have 5000 points available. (And only admins can use rewards.) 

It’s important to understand you may lose your rewards if your spending on the card does not meet certain requirements. According to Divvy’s customer support information, you may forfeit your rewards earned in any given month if you do not spend at least 30% of your credit line that month. It also notes that transactions don’t earn rewards if your total monthly spend is less than 30% of your credit limit. (This seems to be another way of saying the same thing.) 

Also, foreign transactions (and foreign transaction fees) also do not accrue points. 

In addition, Divvy notes that you may forfeit your accrued rewards if you don’t spend anything ($0) on your card in a given month, fall behind on payments (become delinquent or default), don’t remain a customer at the end of the initial 12-months, or if you spend less than $5000 in the last three months of the initial 12-month period. 

While Divvy offers some attractive rewards for certain types of purchases it seems clear they are trying to reward loyal long-time customers. If you split your card purchases over multiple cards, or switch cards during the year, you may wind up with no rewards, or far fewer rewards than you expected. 

You can redeem Divvy rewards for: 

  • Cash back - sent by check or statement credit

  • Gift cards - through Tango

  • Travel - book through the Divvy travel partner for reimbursement

How much is a point worth? It’s a little hard to tell. Divvy’s reward calculator is available in the app, but it does not appear to be available on the website at this time. Previously Divvy points have been calculated with a value of .49 cents to 1 cent per point, depending on how they are redeemed. 

This redemption rate is supported by an illustration on the website that shows an example of 100,000 points that can be redeemed for $520 cash back, $510 in gift cards, $490 statement credit, or $1000 in travel when booked through Divvy’s travel partner and reimbursed after the purchase.

Alternatives to the Divvy Business Rewards Card

The Divvy Business Credit Card definitely appeals to some cardholders. But the rewards program is fairly complicated compared to other business rewards cards. And while the bonus rewards rates are high, Divvy customers who regularly spend more than $5000 a month could likely earn more points elsewhere without risking losing their points because they didn’t spend at least 30% of their credit limit. 

Fortunately, there are a lot of different business credit card options available. Here are some excellent business credit card offers to consider: 


Business owners that spend a lot will need higher spending limits, and will want to earn higher rewards. Recently Brex announced it will only provide services for businesses that have outside funding such as venture capital, angel funding or accelerator funding. That means this card will not be available to all small businesses.

  • 3x points on restaurants

  • 2x points on software

  • 1x points on other eligible business purchases

Similar to Divvy, if you pay daily instead of monthly the rewards points shift slightly.

Costco Anywhere Visa Business Credit Card by Citi

The Costco Anywhere Visa Business credit card by Citi may be good for business owners who spend a lot on fuel. It offers: 

  • $0 annual fee

  • 4% back on gas up to $7,000/year

  • 3% back on travel and restaurants

  • 2% back at Costco

  • 1% back on other eligible purchases

Additionally, there are no foreign transaction fees and you get other benefits such as Citi Entertainment, extended warranty, Citi mobile app, early fraud warning, and more.

Ink Business Preferred 

The Ink Business Preferred credit card from Visa may appeal to business owners looking for a generous sign-up bonus. Currently you can get 100,000 miles when you spend $15,000 in the first three months on eligible purchases. 

There is a $95 annual fee but for that, you get:

  • Rewards rate of 3 points for the first $150,000 annual spent on

  • Travel

  • Certain advertising purchases

  • Internet/Cable/Phone

  • Shipping purchases

  • 1x points per dollar spent on everything else

  • Car rental coverage

  • No foreign transaction fees

  • Trip cancellation insurance

  • Cell phone protection

Blue Business Plus from American Express

This Amex card currently offers 15,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $3,000 in eligible purchases on the Card within your first 3 months of Card Membership. It also offers a 0.0% introductory APR on purchases for 12 months from the date of account opening. The variable APR after that will be 14.74% - 22.74%, depending on qualification factors.

This card offers:

2x points on the first $50,000 in purchases a year

1x points after that
